Tarte aux fruit

I am frequently asked how I came up with “Piece of Cake Papers” as a name for my card enterprise. Well, it started on my first trip to Paris in 2004. I was,as many are, overwhelmed by the beauty of the City of Lights. The attention to detail in everything from food, museums, shops and packaging was amazing. I was especially impressed by the art of the French patisseries. The shapes, colors and flavors were exquisite! Not only were they beautiful, like little jewels, but they also tasted delicious, unlike many American pastries.

When I returned I tracked down every pastry shop I could find, some on travels. I then did a series of patisserie paintings which exhibited at a local gallery. I was fortunate enough to sell many of them. I also designed a line of cards from six different pastries. Please check a delightful site that sells them to see all the cards.

It is run by a delightful young woman,Melissa of www.reverie-daydream.com

Food carts of Portland

I have been busy marketing my set of 6 postcards of Portland food carts. I painted these images last summer and fall. I have sold them to several local retailers, some

who have sold out!

Now I am preparing to sell them at the Food Cart Festival,April 23,sponsored by the Willamette Week. Come taste great food at one location(under the Morrison Bridge).

This event is a benefit for Mercy Corps, so come chow down for a good cause!

If you can’t come you can see my postcards at: Powell’s Home&Garden on Hawthorne, Land on N.Mississippi, Oblation in the Pearl and Tender Loving Empire

on 412 SW 10th Ave.For a good look at all the images check:www.buyolympia.com. Aaron did a great job of displaying both sides of the cards on his site.

Here’s a sample of one of my six postcards.

Spring!

I am going to try to be better at posting to this blog.Yes,you have heard that before.

Honest.

Spring is arriving very slowly in the Pacific Northwest. Even the natives are complaining. April 1 we had the first(and last) day of sun in many months.

So appropriate that it fell on April Fool’s Day.

Atleast the tulips, daffs and cherry trees are blooming and it gives one hope.

I think I’ve got it!

I did it! I posted two photos all by myself. Well, except for an emergency

consultation with Alexander on the phone. Now to photograph more sketches!
